Difference between bonnell spring and pocket spring mattresses?

Bonnell springs are an older mattress technology. Mattresses of this style can be significantly firmer due to the construction of the springs being wired together and interconnected. Movement on one side of a bonnell spring mattress will ripple across the entire mattress which many people can find disturbs their sleep during the night.

The bonnell style mattresses are generally made more affordable and quite durable.

A pocket spring mattress is made up of individual springs encased into a fabric pocket. Each pocket is then joined together to make the full mattress. Many of the pocket spring mattresses are also zoned, which means the density and firmness of the springs will vary for different parts of the mattress – e.g. a 3 zone will have different firmness at the head, torso and feet zones.

The pocket spring mattress technology has significantly reduced the movement felt across the bed ensuring that you get a less interrupted sleep from a restless sleeping partner.

The different zones are also better suited to correct spinal alignment ensuring a better comfort and posture during your sleep.

The pocket spring mattresses are typically priced higher than the bonnell spring mattresses, but many will argue that the higher price tag is worth it for the added comfort and better quality sleep.
