Understanding your mattress warranty is important in case you ever need to make a claim. Here we explain a little about what to expect from your warranty and what to do in order to avoid voiding the warranty should a claim be required.
First thing, warranties are there to give the purchaser peace of mind when shopping, especially for higher priced items. In a lot of cases, you are more comfortable making a purchase when a great warranty is included. When purchasing a mattress you expect it to function for at least the warranty period.
What type of mattress defects are covered by most mattress warranties?
- Split seams or stitching coming undone.
- Bent or broken springs
- Broken or torn handles
- Substantial sagging (not including gradual wear and tear sagging caused by years of use)
- Abnormal lumps and bumps in the surface of the mattress
Things to consider about your mattress warranty that could void any claim;
- Resist the urge to remove the mattress tag. In many cases, removing the tag will void the warranty.
- Not rotating the mattress (or flipping, depending on the style of mattress). Make sure you are rotating the mattress regularly if your mattress requires it.
- Not using the correct bed base for the mattress. If you are not supporting the mattress correctly, this can void the warranty. Please check the warranty information to see what type of bed base will void the warranty, typically this will include slat bases where the slats are spaced too far apart.
- Changing ownership of the mattress can sometimes end the warranty.
- Spillage of liquids onto the mattress can also void the warranty as this could cause damage to the foam layers of the mattress.
In order to make a claim for a defective mattress, please read through the warranty agreement carefully and follow the instructions from the manufacturer. If you have any questions about the warranty claim process, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can.
